Dr. Jay Bayne, Executive Director
Jay S. Bayne received his B.Sc (70), M.Sc.(71), and Ph.D. (76) degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He was Professor of Computer Science at California Polytechnic State University from 1973-1984. In 1978 he founded his first company, Protocol Solutions, Inc. which he sold in 1985. From 1985-1998 he held VP Technology positions for global engineering companies (ABB, Bailey Controls) involved in the design and application of distributed, high-assurance, real-time control systems for automation of transportation, power production and distribution, pulp and paper, chemical, pharmaceutical, petroleum and related continuous manufacturing processes. From 1998-2002 he was CTO of the Controls Group of Johnson Controls, Inc. He is presently CEO of his second company, Meta Command Systems, Inc. (www.metacomsys.com) and Executive Director of the Milwaukee Institute (www.mkei.org). Additionally, he is Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a consultant to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (OSD/NII). Dr. Bayne has published extensively on the science and technology of interactive systems and cybernetics and their application to the real-time governance of complex enterprises. |

Ms. Beth Furumo, Operations Director
Beth A. Furumo received a B.Sc degree in Accounting from Marquette University in 1984, and CPA certification in 1987. Ms. Furumo worked in manufacturing firms from 1984 to 1993, holding an Assistant Controller position at Aqua-Chem and working as the Accounting Manager at J&L Fiber Services. In both of these roles Ms. Furumo was also a Total Quality Management Champion, teaching and implementing Six Sigma-based improvement programs, including substantial business process reengineering projects. Ms. Furumo moved to Manpower International in 1993, first as the Director of North American Accounting and later as Manager of Information Services and Knowledge Management. From 2001 through 2006 Ms. Furumo was the Director of Operations at Eaton Innovation Center, Eaton’s centralized R&D group. In conjunction with this role, she was also a Senior Examiner in Eaton’s equivalent of the Malcolm Baldrige quality program. Ms. Furumo is an Adjunct Professor at Marquette University in its Engineering Management Masters Program. |
